The Story of Roy was created by Melnyk with a view to being published by fellow Canadian artist and publisher Ho Tam for a series called XXX Zines, but the project was never finished and XXX died a death. However, the first 21 drawings show what was possible when Doug Melnyk concentrates on a coherent and thought-provoking narrative – here we get to know the young gay man Roy, with his dreams of taking in homeless men for rampant sex in exchange for a meal, and eventually having his own gay harem. His nature drawings show a thoughtful sensitivity to the way the world works, and it would have been fascinating to see where Roy’s story would have gone next if only the project had come to fruition.

The pages of The Story of Roy come from Doug’s website, here, but no further information is forthcoming.
