The School of Erotic Sciences, originally Facultad de Ciencias Eróticas, takes the familiar idea of an educational institution and turns it into one of Harrison’s most elaborate erotic comedies. Rather than treating sexuality as something mysterious or forbidden, the story imagines it as a subject worthy of formal study, complete with teachers, students, lessons and practical demonstrations.

On the island of Kotorria, famed for sea and sun, the president enacts a decree forbidding pornography and unnatural sexual activity, but this inevitably drives sexuality underground and into the ‘re-educational establishment’ from which the narrative takes its title.

The result is a satirical fantasy about a place where the normal rules separating education from private life have effectively disappeared. Characters approach erotic behaviour with the language of academic enquiry, while the supposedly scientific environment becomes a setting for increasingly complicated personal encounters. The contrast between the solemn vocabulary of a college and the activities taking place within it provides much of the humour.

Facultad de Ciencias Eróticas was serialised in Kiss Comix Nos. 94–98. It was subsequently translated into English as The College of Erotic Sciences, published by Priaprism Press/Last Gasp in 2000.
